RenovationCostGuide was built to answer one question clearly: what should a specific renovation project cost in a specific city, before you talk to a single contractor? Most homeowners go into their first quote conversation with no real anchor for what's reasonable, which makes it hard to tell a fair bid from a padded one, or a suspiciously cheap bid from a legitimate off-season discount.
What this site does
We maintain localized cost estimates for 30 common home renovation and repair project types across 20 major U.S. metro areas — 600+ specific combinations, each with a cost breakdown by material, labor, and permit expense, the factors that move the price up or down, and answers to the questions homeowners most often ask about that project. An interactive calculator lets you adjust size, finish tier, and location to get a number specific to your project rather than a generic national average.
What this site doesn't do
We don't connect homeowners with contractors, sell leads, or accept payment from any contractor, material brand, or home services company to influence our cost figures or rankings. Our estimates are independent and are not a substitute for an actual quote from a licensed local contractor — they exist to give you a reasonable, defensible number to compare quotes against, not to replace the quote process itself.
How we make money
This site is supported by display advertising. Ads are clearly labeled and do not influence which projects, cities, or content we cover, or the cost figures we publish.
